Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei here Wednesday said that
the people and their officials will do their best to defend their rights
and interests by maintaining unity and relying on the grace of God
Speaking before thousands of pilgrims at the holy shrine of Imam Reza
(AS) Tuesday afternoon, Ayatollah Khamenei said that the coincidence of
Norouz and Arbayeen, the 40th day of the mourning period of Imam Hossein's
(AS) martyrdom, gives the new Iranian year special significance.
Welcoming the new Iranian year which he said has been designated as `Year
of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)', the Supreme Leader noted that Prophet
Mohammad (PBUH) embodied all the virtues of prophets and religious leaders
This year, being the year of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), the nation and
government are determined to take major steps to lift Iranian society and

through service and hard work and by following the plan wisely formulated
to bring progress to the country," added Ayatollah Khamenei.
The Supreme Leader further referred to the strong determination of the

the plan, which he said would not only strengthen existing domestic
infrastructure but also raise the country's prestige and independence at
the international level.
Ayatollah Khamenei, who noted the increased facilities now available in
various fields, said that although development and progress were essential
in the Islamic Republic, these would have meaning only when achieved
He said the new government was determined to take big strides towards
achieving such a goal by continuing the movement which started with the
victory of the Islamic Revolution.
"Iran should make progress in science and the country's youth should
build up technology based on scientific knowledge and industries based on
technology with the major aim of boosting national development," said the
Further in his speech, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to recent issues
raised by the US against Iran on human rights, democracy, nuclear energy
and terrorism, and said what it actually wants is that the Iranian nation
submit to its economic, political and cultural hegemony and have a say in
the choice of Iranian officials that will administer the country's affairs.
The Supreme Leader said that US strategy of dealing with Iran
characterized by the use of threats, bullying, psychological propaganda,
creating discord, doubt, hopelessness and insecurity, imposing pressure on
officials are all doomed to fail due to the vigilance and unity of the
nation and government.
Turning to the US threat of possible sanctions that may be imposed on

domains of science, medicine, military and industries have all been made
at a time when Iran was under sanctions, and added that there was no need

In concluding remarks, the Supreme Leader referred to the current
nuclear dispute, and said what the enemies desire is to deny the Iranian
nation the right to access nuclear technology because this will make the
country even more powerful and further defeat their hegemonic ambitions.
"If the nation does not vindicate its right to nuclear energy today it
will be left behind dozens of years in terms of development.
In addition, the time will come when Iran will have to stretch its
hands to strangers and enemies to ask for nuclear fuel to meet its
requirements in many fields.
"With the world gradually running out of oil reserves, all countries,
including the US and Europe, need new, cleaner sources of energy and, in
particular, nuclear energy, which is what the whole world is after. We,
too, insist that access to the nuclear fuel cycle and technology be
recognized for the Iranian nation.
"Therefore, we will not surrender our rights and will not allow the US
to bully us," added the Supreme Leader.

kindness he taught to human beings.
"Today, Muslim prophet's lesson to his Ummah and all humanity is
building-up knowledge and getting more powerful; it is the lesson of
ethics and dignity; it is the lesson of passion, Jihad and dignity and the
lesson of resistance. So, this year will be naturally called after the
auspicious name of the grand prophet," said Ayatollah Khamenei in his New
Year televised message broadcast exactly after start of the New Year.
Recalling sacrilegious cartoon publications depicting holy Prophet of
Islam and desecration of twin shrines in Iraq, the Supreme Leader hoped
that in light of the prophet's name and his memory, Iranian nation will
ponder on his lessons and translate them into action in their life and
usual daily affairs next year.
"Our nation is proud of following the prophet's school of thought and
his lessons; our nation has strongly and firmly hoisted the banner of
Islam in the world of Islam, has endured difficulties and hardships and
gained success for presence on the scene of honor and prestige and in
God's grace, more success is ahead," said the Supreme Leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei called on the Iranians at large to follow prophet
Mohammad's (PBUH) lessons and guidelines as a model in their life.
"We should include in our daily schedule prophet's ethics, the grand
prophet's lesson for dignity, the lesson for acquiring knowledge, and the
lesson for passion and dignity as well as the lesson for unity which he
has taught us and are the lessons of our life," said the Supreme Leader.

presidential elections last year (that had been called as the year of
public contribution and national solidarity), as a result of which
president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad swept to presidency with overwhelming
majority of votes, and said today a government is on the scene to serve
masses and there are a group ready to contribute to development of the
"These all are the blessings of public contribution and national
solidarity which Iranian nation had in the year 1384 given the priority in
their work and endeavor. Nation's success -- whether in terms of presence
and contribution or showing national solidarity-- was brilliant in the
year 1384. The glorious elections and high public turnout as well as
formation of a popular and committed government, and the achievements and
success in different fields were all part of the great triumph of our
nation in the year 1384."
Elsewhere in his address, Ayatollah Khamenei touched on Arbaeen (marking
the 40th day of martyrdom anniversary of the Imam Hossein (AS), the third
Imam of Shiites), which coincided with spring equinox, and condoled all

Leader met foreign ministry officials
Tehran, March 13 - Supreme Leader of the Islamic
Revolution said Tuesday that a sense of Islamic dignity and identity which
has emerged in the Islamic world thanks to the triumph of the Islamic
revolution is a key element of power for the Iranian nation which must
indeed be considered in international relations.
Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei made the remarks during a meeting with
Foreign Minister Manoochehr Mottaki and the ministry's ambassadors,
deputies, aides, charges d'affaires as well as heads of Iran's consulates
"The version of Islam practiced by Iran, unlike the Taliban model or the
American- or Western culture-inspired model of Islam, enjoys enlightening,
adherence to Islamic tenets, innovation and dynamism," Ayatollah Khamenei
said, adding that upon that model a system and people-based government has
been established (in Iran) which despite all pressures during the last 27
years has stayed the course and thereby represents an appealing model for
the world Muslims to the dislike of the world big powers, the United
States in particular.
"Besides, the Islamic faith and spiritual attitude of the Iranian nation
and their faith-based presence in the country's different and sensitive
situations during past years is a cultural element of the country's
power," he said, adding that the nation's spirit of sacrifice and
martyrdom-seeking stems from the very Islamic faith with which global
powers are filled with fear. He urged for maintaining the attitude.
Pointing to the country's nuclear issue as being part of foreign policy
agenda, Ayatollah Khamenei underscored that the Islamic republic of Iran
considers going back in the nuclear issue, the great national demand and
the Iranian nation's natural right, as but a drawback in the country's
independence which may inflict a hefty cost on the Iranian nation.
Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized on the necessity to utilize peaceful nuclear
technology and described it as the inevitable need of the country's
future. The leader also called the technology a superior scientific
strength being resulted in progress in different fields. He added that any
retreat at the current juncture will be followed by a never-ending chain
of pressures and further going back. He arrived at the conclusion that the
path is irreversible and so the foreign policy apparatus must courageously
defend the right.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution said the key motivation of America
and its certain European minions for hindering Iran from exercising its
natural and scientific right is that they are anxious at the nation having
achieved higher points of scientific capabilities. He pointed to current
rulers of America, saying: "they think they can push through their
measures via administering the world by arms or money, but no doubt they
will fail to make headway as they conceded loss in the Middle East,
especially in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Syria and Palestine."
Ayatollah Khamenei tied this reactionary outfit's constant defeats to
their erroneous accounts of the nations' zeal, resolve and identity,
adding "they (the outfit) make many false statements about Iran via their
propaganda media which having probably fed their accounts, will lead to
Referring to the US president's recent remarks about Iran's lack of
democracy, Ayatollah Khamenei said: "If there is a place where democracy
does not exist, that is America, since all clues of electioneering there
is tucked in the hands of a small minority of capitalists, mainly Zionist,
and people's vote is useless and many of them decline to vote. This Mr.
Geroge W. Bush too has come to power by fraud." Ayatollah Khamenei then
mentioned some other issues which mars America's democracy, including US
President's unlawful conduct mainly his eavesdropping on public phone
calls, his low popularity rate among American people as well as practicing
"If American rulers allow their propaganda media to broadcast these
realities in full, the size of Americans who voice solidarity with them
will cause White House rulers to be intimidated," the Leader underscored.
Concerning the Iraqi developments, Ayatollah Khamenei said: "The Islamic
Republic of Iran supports the demands of the Iraqi people and seeks a
popular government while occupiers refuse to bow to the Iraqi people's
demands and unrightfully put hurdles to their national will as it harms
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that as soon as the occupiers leave Iraq,
security will be restored, adding that as per analytical evidence as well
as some intelligence, America's and the Zionist regime's intelligence
bodies are behind assassinations and bombings in Iraq.
Ayatollah Khamenei called the Palestinian issue as being top on foreign
policy agenda, saying: "The Palestinian issue means the victory of a
nation in their difficult struggle for restoring their rights and thereby
must be dealt with by considering its leads-up and through a long term
consideration of the Palestinian developments."
Ayatollah Khamenei deplored the Zionist regime's threats to assassinate
Palestinian people's prime minister-designate and denounced the silence
kept by Western countries who at the same time cry for democracy as
"The position of the Islamic Republic is to give spiritual and political
support to the Islamic struggle of the Palestinian people and pursue their
Supreme Leader lambasts US
hue and cry over Iran's nuke plan
Tehran, March 9, IRNA - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution
Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in a meeting with members of Experts Assembly
Thursday morning briefed them on the facts about nuclear issue and two
major reasons for the US continued hue and cry.
Ayatollah Khamenei also said this (US hostility) has been going on at
various occasions over the past 27 years. The Supreme Leader said that
today, the Iranian people and officials resist any pressure and threat by
relying upon the Almighty God. Ayatollah Khamenei added that by resorting
to their wisdom and keeping up their unity, the Iranians are determined to
continue their move to access advanced technologies, such as that of the
The Supreme Leader referred to the US pretext to continue psychological
war against the Islamic ruling system and preventing Iran's scientific and
technological progress as the basic reasons for US objection to the
peaceful use of nuclear energy by the Iranian nation.
"The Americans are well aware that due to the strategic depth of the
late Imam Khomeini's spiritual influence and the highly attractive system
of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the world of Islam, today in any
election held in Islamic states, such as that in Iraq and Egypt, people
will vote for Islamic groups.
"Such facts make it almost impossible for them (enemies) to tolerate
the Islamic system," added the Supreme Leader. Turning to the faith,
consciousness, experience, growing progress, strongly organized domestic
system and deep spiritual influence in the world of Islam as the
principles of the authority of the Islamic system, Ayatollah Khamenei said
that in practice the US confrontation with Iran manifests itself in
continued psychological war with the Iranian ruling system and nation. "Given
that a pretext is required for such a psychological war, today the US
administrators have turned to the nuclear energy as an excuse. "On
different occasions over the past 27 years, whenever the US pretext lost
its effect for any reason, immediately it brought up another one, given
its belief that continued psychological war with the Iranian nation is the
best way to confront the Islamic system," added the Supreme Leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that therefore, if the government and nation
surrender their rights to access nuclear energy at this point, the game
will not be over rather the US will find another excuse. The Supreme
Leader pointed to Iran's continued cooperation with the International
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on its nuclear program and noted that over the
past two and a half years, the government has tried in every possible way
to solve the issue. "However, the Europeans eventually told us that to
gain their confidence we should suspend our entire nuclear activities. "In
the world of today, scientific knowledge is the foundation of economic and
political power, and for this reason the US attempts to prevent Iran's
scientific progress," added Ayatollah Khamenei. The Supreme Leader said
that according to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), all
countries are entitled to access nuclear energy.
Referring to the call of some Western states for official recognition
of Iran's right to access nuclear technology, Ayatollah Khamenei said that
recognizing an inalienable and legal right is a superficial, futile and
senseless privilege, given that it has been officially recognized in
international treaties. "Therefore, it does not need to be officially
recognized by Europeans," concluded the Supreme Leader.
