U.S. Trying to Distort Facts on Iran and Islam (06.06.1995)

Iran News, IRAN NEWS POLITICAL DESK TEHRAN - Leader of the Islamic Revolution Grand Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Sunday accused the United States of trying to stop Iran from developing itself in a bid to discredit Islam.
"The enemy wants to show that Islam equals poverty, that an Islamic system of government is incapable of managing is affairs," he said in a speech delivered on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of the demise of the Founder of the Islamic Republic, the late Imam Khomeini.
"That's why the United States, having failed to destroy us in other ways, is trying to deprive us of scientific progress and to prevent us from developing our country," the wire copies quoted him as saying. The United States announced on April 30 a trade ban on Iran, accusing Tehran of supporting terrorism and seeking nuclear weapons. No evidence of the accusations was made public and all other countries said `no' to the U.S anti-Iran move. Washington has also tried to persuade Russia and failed to scrap a deal to sell civilian nuclear technology to the Islamic Republic. Grand Ayatollah Khamenei said Iranians did not "feel like reconciling with the United States at heart ... because Washington launches aggression against our country." He also accused the United States of seeking to dominate the world and of interfering in Iran's internal affairs in a bid to ensure its "illegitimate interests." "If you limit the pursuit of your interests to within your territorial boundaries, we will have nothing against you," the Leader said addressing U.S. officials. "But you are greedy. The pursuit of your interests is to the detriment of other countries."
The Leader was addressing multitudes of mourners at Imam Khomeini Mausoleum. He urged the nation to mobilize and build the country to foil the U.S. plot to hamper Iran's development. "The enemy wants to show that Islam equals poverty, that an Islamic system of government is incapable of managing is affairs," Grand Ayatollah Khamenei said. "So it is our national duty today and the biggest task for everyone to help develop the country to show the miracle of Islam," he told the Iranian nation. "Our country must be an example and a source of envy for others, the Leader noted.
Top Iranian officials including Majlis Speaker Hojjatoleslam Ali Akbar Nateq-Nouri and Judiciary Head Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi along with a large number of foreign guests, including those from Central Asia and Bosnia, were focused by Iranian television which broadcast the ceremony live.
The late Imam's grandson, Hojjatoleslam Seyed Hassan Khomeini, was sitting beside Nateq-Nouri. The Iranian television showed repeatedly images of the late Imam returning to Iran from a 15-year exile first in Turkey, then Iraq and a brief stay in Paris.
Grand Ayatollah Khamenei refuted the arrogant powers' allegations that Iran interferes into internal affairs of other countries. He said, "No we don't interfere into others' affairs ... and we do not need to do so."
The Leader said, "It's the message of the Islamic Revolution which awoke the Muslims and non-Muslims who stood up against their oppressors." Contrary to the pre-Islamic system era, Iran now is an independent country, the Leader said.
The defunct Shah's regime made Iran dependent on foreign powers and the rulers before the 1979 victory of the Islamic Revolution used to give priority to the interests of the West.
Grand Ayatollah Khamenei paid glowing tribute to the late Imam and said he turned a new page of history and awoke the oppressed. He said the religious aspect of the late Imam was great.

Leader Likens Struggle of Imam Hussein to That of Imam Khomeini (10.6.1995)

IRAN NEWS NATIONAL DESK TEHRAN - Leading the Friday prayer ceremonies on the day of Ashura, the Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, likened the uprising of Imam Hussein with that of Imam Khomeini. Ayatollah Seyed Khamenei went on to analyze the historical events that led to the battle of Karbala leading to the bitter martyrdom of Imam Hussein at the hands of Obaidollah Ibn-e Ziad. Commemorating the day on the 10th of the month of Muharram of the Lunar Hijra calendar in the year 61 (680 A.D.), Ayatollah Khamenei said that the battle of Imam Hussein signifies the divine obligation of Islam that rests upon the shoulders of every good Muslim to deliver the ill followers to the correct way. This, he said, was the purpose that Imam Hussein had identified for himself, at a time when the Muslims among that society were going astray, swaying from the original precepts of Islam. The Imam, he said, had ensured that society revert back to the correct track of Islam, much similar to the struggle which propelled the aims of the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini.
This fight for truth and untainted Islamic values has proven to be a pillar of the Islamic ideological structure to this day, the Leader said. He added that the celebrated battle, during which Imam Hussein's brother Hazrat-e-Abbas and 72 followers were also martyred, has offered a model to the Muslims the world throughout centuries, IRNA reported. Ayatollah Khamenei explained that Yazid-ibn-e Muaviah, the corrupt leader of the time and the foe of Imam Hussein, was a leader who called himself Muslim at the heal of a Muslim government, but was outwardly corrupt and referred to as a Drunkard. He was reputed for having strayed away from the values of Islam and was attributed with flaws in his character that had stripped him from the right to the throne and the support of the people. These are the factors that endowed Imam Hussein with the opportunity for this battle and the justification for no less than a direct encounter with him on the battle field. The Leader then likened the Islamic Revolution of 1979 to this historic battle and said that the Revolution instituted by Imam Khomeini had the same ideological bases as the battle of Imam Hussein against blatant corruption. The foundations of the struggle of Imam Hussein (A.S.) and the mission of Imam Khomeini retain a crucial common factor to deliver the Muslim societies of their time from the corruption of their leaders. "What these two struggles have in common, that makes them similar in doctrine, is the aim to rid the Muslim society of their respective times from deviations." said the Leader. "Both these struggles," he added, "bore with them the risk of martyrdom, which signifies a labor of love." In the case of Imam Hussein (AS), the leader observed, the worthy struggle led to martyrdom, but in the case of our beloved late leader, Imam Khomeini, the result was the successful establishment of a correct Islamic rule in Iran and the re-direction of Islam on its proper path. The Leader of the Islamic Revolution went on to pay tribute to the religious pilgrims who lost their lives at the holy shrine of Imam Reza at this time last year, due to a bomb blast organized by the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) terrorist group. The Leader concluded by reiterating that the battle of Imam Hussein, with the army of Yazid symbolized the duty of true Muslims to prevent the seizure of power in Muslim societies by ill followers whose leadership strays from the respected values of Islam, even at the cost of their own martyrdom.

Leader Slams Western Culture as "Corrupt" (10.06.1995)

Iran News, IRAN NEWS POLITICAL DESK TEHRAN - The Leader of the Islamic Revolution says the Western culture has failed to bring happiness and prosperity to the mankind. "These days, the Western culture is moving in the direction of corruption," Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei told a group of foreign guests here to attend ceremonies marking the 6th anniversary of Imam Khomeini's demise. "Discrimination, injustice and oppression, miserable status of children and youngsters and their deprivation from a warm family atmosphere, depression and disillusionment of the youth are among the clear signs of failure of the Western culture in delivering prosperity and happiness to them," the Leader said in remarks quoted by IRNA. He added that "exploitation of science, technology and wealth for spread of corruption and tyranny throughout the world are the worst sins and crimes perpetrated by the Western couture." These crimes, the Leader said, have currently become so commonplace that they are presumed as legal phenomena.
Touching on the inappropriate composition of the U.N. Security Council, he said, "The Council adopts measures in the interest of the big powers in dealing with such issues as bombardment, blockade and destruction of any part of the world and interference or non-interference in different affairs." He cited deprivation of the Palestinian nation from their legitimate rights, ignoring invasion of a country like Lebanon and non-interference in a country such as Bosnia-Herzegovina in favor of the aggressor, as few examples of decisions made by the Security Council. All these decisions have been adopted on the orders of the big powers, led by the U.S., a country described by the Leader as the "mother of the corrupts of the century."
"The Muslim and revolutionary nation of Iran is now the upholder of the banner of genuine Islam,"the Leader noted, adding that the Western culture is in serious confrontation with genuine Islam. "For the past 16 years this nation has managed to go ahead amid a hostile atmosphere created by enemies of Islam. The strength and steadfastness of the nation is growing stronger everyday," he added. The Leader described the late Imam Khomeini as the best symbol of such resistance.
Ayatollah Khamenei added that the awakening and enlightening movement of Islam has put an end to the Western domination of the world. He said now all hearts are beating for Islam. "The role and responsibility of the ulema, intellectuals and the youth, the university students in particular, in giving further momentum to the Islamic movement is very grave."
Islam as manifested by the Holy Qoran covers a wide range of issues including foundation of family and society, personal and universal matters, prayer and jihad, brotherly attitude of Muslims towards Muslims and non-Muslims, severe confrontation with aggressors, administration of a country and management of its economy.
Prior to the Leader's address, Mohammad Ali Ansari who is in charge of the demise anniversary ceremonies of the late Imam, briefed Ayatollah Khamenei on the massive participation of foreign dignitaries from all over the world in the ceremonies and their renewal of allegiance to the aspirations of Imam Khomeini.
