leader emphasizes independence in medical field (14.10.1993)

Tehran, oct. 14, irna -- the leader of the Islamic revolution, ayatollah ali khamenei here today underlined the need to cut iran's dependence on foreign countries in medical field and provide people with all their needed medical services. the supreme leader also underscored the importance of conducting extensive research in iranian medical colleges. ayatollah khamenei was speaking to a group of the health ministry officials including health minister alireza marandi and his deputies as well as the chancellors of medical colleges from throughout the country. in a dignified country like the Islamic republic of iran, people should be able to select their favorite physicians to treat their illnesses inside the couture, the supreme leader pointed out. the leader said that medical colleges and universities should be directed towards research in the real sense of the word and train as many female physicians as male ones. in a short speech, the health minister briefed ayatollah khamenei on the activities of his ministry and its success in substantially increasing the number of medical colleges in the country since the victory of the Islamic revolution in 1979.

leader: plo-israel deal no solution to palestinian issue (7.10.1993)

Tehran, oct. 7, irna -- leader of the Islamic revolution ayatollah ali khamenei commenting on the gaza-jericho deal, said here thursday, "the issue of palestine is not over yet." the leader made the remark when he received head of the palestinian Islamic jihad movement, dr. fathi shaqaqi. to the detriment of the zionist enemy," said the supreme leader. fathi shaqaqi reported to the leader on the nature and status of anti-zionist struggle of the palestinian combatants in the occupied territories following the plo-tel aviv compromise deal. shaqaqi said that the plo-israel deal has not reduced the momentum of the palestinian struggle. on the contrary, it has increased the determination of the palestinian fighters to continue their struggle untile materilization of their legitimate rights.
